The Suzuki Kizashi is a mid-size family sedan first introduced in the United States on July 30, 2009. Later, it was launched in Japan in October 2009, followed by North America in December 2009.
Then Australia and New Zealand in May 2010. The Kizashi marked Suzuki’s first entry into the Australian mid-size segment. It was also sold in European markets. It reached India in February 2011 and Pakistan in 2015.

Despite its solid design and performance, the Kizashi experienced low global sales. This was mainly due to the global financial crisis and Suzuki’s decision to pull out of the U.S. and Canadian car markets in 2013 and 2014.
In December 2013, Suzuki confirmed it would discontinue the Kizashi without introducing a replacement. Production officially ended in December 2015 at the Sagara plant in Japan.
The name “Kizashi” comes from the Japanese word 兆, which means “a sign” or “an omen,” suggesting the arrival of something great. The name reflected Suzuki’s ambition to move into a more upscale and competitive segment of the car market.
Variants
It was available in several trims: base, SE, Sport GTS, and Sport SLS. The car came standard with front-wheel drive and a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine producing 185 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque.
The same engine in models equipped with the CVT (continuously variable transmission) delivered slightly less horsepower. A six-speed manual transmission came only in front-wheel-drive versions.
All-wheel drive was optional on all variants except the base model and featured a driver-activated FWD mode to improve fuel economy. The Kizashi also came with 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels, strong Akebono brakes, and a well-tuned suspension system.
Features
The base version included keyless entry and push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, and projector-style headlamps.
Higher trims offered leather upholstery, a power sunroof, heated front seats, and a premium 425-watt Rockford Fosgate sound system with iPod support and Bluetooth connectivity—though Bluetooth was not available in all variants.
Safety
The Kizashi was built with safety in mind. It offered a strong body structure, advanced braking components, and a range of standard safety features. These included anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), traction control, and multiple airbags. Its chassis and handling dynamics contributed to secure driving behavior, and the optional all-wheel-drive system enhanced traction in adverse weather conditions.
In summary, the Suzuki Kizashi was a well-engineered car with upscale features and sporty handling. While it failed to achieve commercial success, it remains a solid and underrated sedan in the used car market.
