Tail Light Malfunction Affects 243,000 Trucks

The first recall affects nearly 243,000 Maverick trucks from model years 2022 through 2024. The issue involves the tail lights, which may not turn on while driving.

According to Ford, a computer system inside the truck can mistakenly detect too much electrical current in one or both tail lights. When this happens, the lights may stay off, even though the truck is moving. This could make the vehicle harder to see at night or in poor weather, raising the chances of an accident.

The company said that headlights, brake lights, and turn signals will continue to work, even if the tail lights do not. Ford also stated that it has received no reports of crashes or injuries caused by this problem.

Free Software Fix Offered

To fix the issue, dealers will update the truck’s software free of charge. Ford will start sending notification letters to affected truck owners on or after May 20, 2025. Owners are encouraged to schedule a service appointment. As soon as they receive the notice.

Rearview Camera Issue in 144,500 Trucks

In a separate recall, Ford is also calling back about 144,500 Maverick trucks from the 2022 to 2024 model years due to a problem with the rearview camera display. These trucks have a type of screen known as a Connected Touch Radio.

According to a report Ford filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the camera display can freeze while the driver is backing up, showing a still image instead of a live feed. This could give the driver a false idea of what is behind the truck, which could lead to a crash.

Frozen Image Can Cause Driver Confusion

Ford said that the frozen image could cause confusion, especially in tight spaces or when pedestrians or objects are behind the truck. Like the tail light issue, Ford has not reported any accidents or injuries related to the rearview camera problem.

More Recalls Also Affect Broncos

Both of these recalls are part of Ford’s ongoing efforts to address safety concerns in its popular Maverick truck line. The company has also recently recalled 456,000 Broncos and Mavericks for other issues that could cause the vehicles to lose power while being driven.

What Owners Should Do

Owners of affected vehicles can check if their truck is part of the recall by visiting the NHTSA website or by contacting their local Ford dealership. They should have their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) ready when checking for recall details.

Ford continues to work with the NHTSA to make sure all safety updates are completed quickly and at no cost to the vehicle owners.

If you own a 2022–2024 Ford Maverick, it’s important to stay informed and respond to any recall notices right away. Fixing these issues will help keep you, your passengers, and others on the road safe.
